A rare chance to hear this extraordinary harmonie version of Beethoven’s symphony on instruments of the early 19th century, 200 years after it was issued by the composer’s publisher. We're putting it into context alongside a contemporary arrangement of the Overture to Boieldieu’s Jean de Paris, a hugely popular and highly-regarded opera of the time which exists in at least 17 contemporary arrangements for winds; and an original partita by Josef Triebensee, the oboist in the Viennese Hofkapelle harmonie.

18:30: Pre-concert talk Prof. David Wyn Jones (University of Cardiff) discusses the role of Harmoniemusik in Viennese musical life with members of Boxwood & Brass
